Budimex commences construction of the Metropolitan Ring Road of the Tricity (OMT)

29.11.2022

On 24 November, construction of the Metropolitan Ring Road of the Tricity has been inaugurated. Budimex commences ground works at the primary stretch of the new road. The Company had already completed logging, archaeology, geodetic and preparatory works. The General Contractor will complete the contract worth over net PLN 581 million within 38 months after signing of the agreement, excluding winter periods, i.e., until March 2025.

The construction of OMT has been divided into two parts. The first task implemented by Budimex is a section between Chwaszczyno node (without the node) and Żukowo node (without the node) of a length of 16.3 km. Until 2025, the Company will construct a dual carriageway express road with two road lanes in both directions and a reserve for a third lane, “Miszewo” and “Chwaszczyno” road nodes, Miszewo road circuit, as well as, among others, 25 engineering facilities. The contract is implemented by Budimex according to the “Design and Build” method.

Budimex entered into agreement with the General Directorate of National Roads and Motorways in Gdańsk on construction of another section of the S6 express road as a part of the project under the name: “Construction of the Ring Road of the Tricity Metropoly” in April 2021. The General Contractor will implement the contract worth over net PLN 581 million within 38 months after signing of the agreement, excluding winter periods, i.e. until March 2025. The agreement was signed at the section of the S6 road between Luzino and Szemud, constructed by Budimex, which is a continuation of the planned Metropolitan Ring Road of the Tricity. As a part of the investment, Budimex will be responsible for construction of an approx. 16.3 km section of the Ring Road of the Tricity Metropoly, constituting a part of the S6 express road.

“I’m grateful to the contractors for their efforts, over 20 engineering facilities. The ring road will be constructed by two contractors, who guarantee good and timely implementation of this investment. I would like to wish good and safe work to all Polish engineers present in this construction site,” said Andrzej Adamczyk, the Minister of Infrastructure.

Ultimately, OMT will have a length of 39 km and will allow smooth travel from the side of the A1 motorway and the S7 road in the western and northern direction of the Pomorskie voivodeship, transferring the transit traffic to further sections of the S6 road towards Lębork, Słupsk and Koszalin. The ring road under construction will be of strategic importance for transport in the vicinity of Żukowo and Chwaszczyn, and will lower the traffic on the existing S6 express road of the Ring Road of the Tricity.

“The contract includes 3 million cubic metres of ground works with the use of 26 engineering facilities, 6.5 tonnes of steel, 4.5 thousand cubic metres of concrete and 280 thousand tonnes of the wearing course. We carry out those works, such as reconstruction of underground collisions, which we have just begun, using own equipment. 20 equipment units have started work today,” summed up Przemysław Czaja, the Contract Director of Budimex S.A.

OMT is another infrastructural investment in the portfolio of Budimex. Currently, the Company is implementing, e.g., construction of the S61 express road (at the following sections: Suwałki – Budzisko, including a ring road of Szypliszki, Stawiski – Szczuczyn, Wysokie – Raczki) and the S19 express road at the section from Białystok Zachód node (without the node) to Białystok Księżno node, S11 at the section Koszalin – Zegrze Pomorskie, S5 between Ornowo and Wirwajdy in Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodeship or S1 in Małopolska.
