Technical facilities for Koleje Małopolskie have been commissioned

The Technical Exploitation Point in Kraków was officially opened in January. It was built by a consortium of Budimex (the leader) and KZN Rail as a part of the investment under the title “Design and construction of technical facilities for servicing of the railway rolling stock at Kraków Towarowy station” for Koleje Małopolskie.

The purpose of the Technical and Exploitation Point is to provide a place for standstill of railway vehicles of the Company, as well as for their maintenance and operation.

“The Point will allow for timely and planned execution of maintenance, service and repair activities and transferring of the rolling stock for further use in order to implement the assumed exploitation tasks for the Company’s own needs, without the necessity to travel to remote points. Ultimately, it will also allow to provide services as a part of Service Infrastructure Facility (Obiekt Infrastruktury Usługowej, OIU) for other railway carriers in the scope of technical servicing of railway vehicles and other services,” says Jakub Nagraba, the Director of the General Construction Division of Budimex S.A.

The investment was implemented according to “Design and construct” method in a consortium with KZN Rail Sp. z o.o. The share of Budimex SA in the consortium was 57%. The value of the entire contract was PLN 79,338,000.

The contract covered the following tasks:

  • preparation of a construction and executive design, including obtaining of administrative decisions;
  • construction of a technical and assembly facility building, including: a repair hall with social and office premises, a workshop and warehouse part, a wash capable of cleaning an entire train, as well as technical premises including installations and equipment;
  • construction of a new system of standstill and manoeuvring tracks including an overhead contact line and a Railway Traffic Control System (SRK);
  • land development and construction of external infrastructure, including: construction of a fire tank, a reservoir, power supply connections and a transformer station, construction of a system of internal roads and parking lots, etc.;
  • comprehensive delivery and assembly of the equipment of the facility, including: construction of a portal wash capable of cleaning an entire train using a closed water loop, preparation of a faeces removal system for trains, delivery and assembly of devices, in particular: an underfloor wheel lathe, a trapdoor, a laser wheel measuring system, lifts for track vehicles, a wheel pressure measuring system, a sanding station, a de-icing station, a pantograph repair station, as well as delivery of a Lokotraktor type road-rail vehicle used to pull trains.

Budimex is one of the leaders of railway construction in Poland. Currently, the Company implements contracts such as a new Warszawa Zachodnia station, being one of the largest investments of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA. The General Contractor is also responsible for construction of the Port Gdynia railway station, as well as the Ełk Station and the Czechowice-Dziedzice Station.In the last two years, Budimex also completed a modernization of the Warsaw–Lublin railway line, E59 Section Rokietnica–Wronki, as well as a section of the E30 railway line between Trzebinia and Krzeszowice.
